Yashasvi Jaiswal slams 2nd century against England

The left-hander Yashashvi Jaiswal said that he was a quick learner when he slammed his second century in Tests and his first at home on Day 1 of the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam on Friday, February 2.

Jaiswal came with a controlled knock as he got to his hundred in just 151 balls in the second session on a hot and humid day in the coastal city of Andhra Pradesh. Top 3 Indian batters including Yashasvi Jaiswal, went past the 50-run mark in the first innings of the first Test in Hyderabad last week.

None of them went on and got a big hundred, something that head coach Rahul Dravid pointed fingers at after the hosts were handed a shock loss in the series opener by England. India managed 436 in the first innings and sealed a 190-run lead, but quite a few agreed with the assessment India could have pressed on and got more.

However, in Visakhapatnam, the first Indian batter who went past fifty ensured he reached the three-figure mark. Yashasvi Jaiswal flaunted his ability to bat at multiple gears as he was not as aggressive as he was in Hyderabad.

After Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat, both the Indian openers took their time to blunt the new-ball attack of England, who opened the bowling with James Anderson and Joe Root.

After India was elected to bat, the left-hander reached the milestone by hitting a six-off left-arm spinner Tom Hartley. The BCCI shared the video of Jaiswal reaching the landmark on X:

Jaiswal, playing his sixth Test since his debut last year, made 80 in the first Indian innings of the opening match in Hyderabad, which India had lost by 28 runs on Day 4. Jaiswal scored 171 against the West Indies on his Test debut at Roseau in Dominica in July last year.
