Rishabh Pant for T20 World Cup 2024? Zaheer Khan shares his opinion

Former Indian cricketer Zaheer Khar feels that it will be difficult to make it to the T20 World Cup 2024 squad for India, even if Rishabh Pant shows excellent performance during the IPL 2024 season.

Pant has been out of competitive cricket after a car accident on December 30, 2022. He had a quick recovery from the severe accident. The accident led to multiple injuries, including a significant knee injury and went through the surgery.

Despite the challenges, Pant’s resilience has been evident through his social media updates, where he termed the accident as his second birth. His rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy under the BCCI’s observation has shown the best results.

Pant is return to full fitness by February 2024 and aiming to lead the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. This comeback could clear the way to entry into the T20 World Cup squad.

The legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has expressed confidence that Pant, if eligible, then it would be an automatic selection for the T20 World Cup 2024, emphasizing his status as a game-changer for the Indian team.
Zaheer while speaking on Colors Cineplex said that everyone would be happy to see the Indian wicketkeeper return to the field.

“If you see Rishabh Pant’s journey, the turn he has gone through is not easy for any player. Firstly, everyone who is attached to cricket will be happy once he comes back on the field. He has a lot of hurdles to cross,” Zaheer said in a discussion on Colors Cineplex.

When it came to the topic of the T20 World Cup 2024, Zaheer said that it wouldn’t be easy for Pant as he would need to come back and prove his full fitness and form, which would take time given his lengthy lay-off.

He feels that even if the wicketkeeper has a good IPL performance, he may not make it to the squad for the T20 World Cup.

“Firstly, he has to come back and play. It’s not easy at this level. You need to get used to it and get the rhythm back. Those things might take time. It’s great if it doesn’t. However, keeping all things in mind, even if he has a very good IPL, I don’t think the team will be thinking in that direction.”
