Ben Stokes To Announce Second ODI Retirement After WC vs PAK

England all-rounder Ben Stokes’s recent outstanding performance against the Netherlands has made discussions about his performance in the ongoing World Cup 2023. While his display showcased his skills and versatility with the bat against the Netherlands on Wednesday, it also prompted debate about his impact on England in the ICC World Cup 2023.

It is worth noting that the 32-year-old declared his retirement from cricket’s ODI format but took a U-turn after much suspense and spills and joined the three Lions in their run for a title defence.

England in ODI World Cup 2023

England’s surprising run in the World Cup 2023 has sent reverberations through the cricketing world. With 6 losses in 8 games, including 5 consecutive defeats, the performance of the World Cup 2019 champions has been disastrous. The dramatic downturn in their form has confounded expectations, leaving fans and analysts astounded by their unexpected struggles on the world stage.

World Cup 2023: Ben Stokes Becomes First England Player To Achieve Special Milestone

England is all set to play with Pakistan in their final game of World Cup 2023 on November 11. They defeated the Netherlands in the previous game. The hero of the match was Ben Stokes, who scored a century and finally ended what has been a quiet tournament. Stokes had already announced his ODI retirement last year, and he was brought back on a special request. He has been managed with injuries throughout the World Cup, so the question comes whether Stokes will again announce ODI retirement for the second time after the completion of the tournament.

Ben Stokes’s Opinion on His ODI World Cup Retirement

In an interaction program, Ben Stokes said that he had no idea whether it was his last ODI match or not. He said that in between the games he has given himself the time to recover from his knee surgery. He also said that he is far better right now than he came for the World Cup.

Stokes said, “I’ve no idea. I’m sure there will be a conversation but I don’t know when that will be. I have used the time between games here to give myself a better opportunity after the surgery.”

The England Test Captain added, “All the work in the gym doesn’t compare to what you go through out there. I’m looking forward to getting it sorted and not having to worry like I have these past 18 months. From a physical point of view, I’m better off than when I first got out here, but physical fitness and cricket fitness are two different things.”
