Diwakar files defamation case against MS Dhoni at Delhi High Court

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has filed a case against former business partners of Aarka Sports and Management Limited at the Ranchi Court on January 5, 2024 for fraud of Rs 15 crore. After that, his ex-business partners Mihir Diwakar and his wife Sowmya Das filed a defamation case against Shoni in the Delhi High Court on January 16.

A report in the Bar and Bench stated that the couple has asked the court to restrain Dhoni and the “people acting on his behalf from making defamatory allegations against them” after news of conflict between MS Dhoni and Diwakar’s management firm spread in the media this month in a matter regarding the violation of their contract.

The Delhi High Court on January 18 posted the hearing of a defamation case filed against a former Indian captain by his former business partner on January 29 and asked the plaintiffs to file court fees within a week.

Justice Prathiba M Singh was dealing with the case. The duo sought to restrain several social media platforms including YouTube, Google, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and others from making, publishing, and circulating per se defamatory, fake statements against the couple.

“It is deemed appropriate to direct intimation to defendant no. 1 (Dhoni) of filing of the present suit. Let the registry issue an email to defendant No. 1 at the email address. The intimation be also given at the law firm representing him,” the court said.

The former business partners have submitted that an injunction order could be passed even in cases that are sub judice before the court.

A criminal case was also filed by Dhoni against Diwakar in Ranchi Court against directors of Aarka Sports under section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC.

As per Diwakar’s suit in the Delhi High Court, the defendants (Dhoni and others) be restrained from damaging the reputation of the plaintiffs for the false allegations allegedly made by them regarding the purported illegal gain of Rs 15 crores from him and breach of a 2017 contract.

Coming to MS Dhoni’s career he led the Indian team in the limited overs formats from 2007 to 2017 and test cricket between 2008 and 2014. He captained the most international matches and successful captain with wins in the 2007 World Twenty20, 2011 World Cup, 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, and the Asia Cup in multiple years.

This right-handed batter led the Chennai Super Kings franchise in IPL to the title for the more time. He announced his retirement from international cricket and playing IPL. He also said that his retirement plans after 2024. IPL 2024 might be the last season for him.
