South Africa Announce Squad for India Series, Markram to Lead in White ball sesies, No Bavuma and Rabada in Team

South Africa rested batter Temba Bavuma and Kagiso Rabada for its home white-ball series against India this month after a poor World Cup performance. But he will lead the team in the two-Test series which begins on December 16.

Aiden Markram will captain the team in both the T20I and ODI series having three matches each. Buvama will return to lead the Test team. Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee and Lungi Ngidi will all play in the first two T20Is before coming back for the Test matches.

South Africa cricket board have included Tristan Stubbs name in the Test squad for the first time, along with batter David Bendingham and seamer Nandre Burger, both of them are likely to be part of SA’s squad against New Zealand next February. Wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne was included in the squad after being dropped last summer.

“We have a near full-strength (Test) squad to pick from and that in itself is a real boost for us,” Test coach Shukri Conrad said in a statement from Cricket South Africa. “It is the start of a new ICC World Test Championship cycle and that itself is a huge incentive for everyone.”

The three-match T20I series gets underway on 10 December in Durban and concludes on 14 December. It will be followed by three ODIs from 17-21 December. The teams will then play two Test matches starting on 26 December and 3 January 2024 at Centurion and Newlands respectively.
