Virat Kohli Takes a break from White Ball games on South Africa Tour

India star cricketer Virat Kohli who was on fire in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament is going to take a break from the white ball series (T20Is and ODIs) against South Africa next month. According to reports, Kohli is all set to miss the white-ball cricket and will only be available for two-Test series.

The 35-year-old batter, who has scored 765 runs in 11 matches of the ODI World Cup 2023 has informed the BCCI about his decision to take a break from the white-ball cricket.

“Kohli has informed the BCCI and selectors that he needs a break from white-ball cricket, and he will get back to them about when he wants to play white-ball cricket next. At the moment, he has informed the BCCI he will be playing red-ball cricket, which means he is available for selection for the two Test matches in South Africa”, a source told Indian Express.

After India’s heartbreaking defeat by 6 wickets against Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, Kohli is currently on holiday to London. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is also in London, as of now, there is no clue if Rohit will be available for the white-ball series against the Proteas.

If Rohit also doesn’t want to play the white-ball series against South Africa, then KL Rahul will become the captain. Rahul was India’s white-ball leader during the 2022 tour of South Africa as well, after Virat Kohli stepped down from his role and Rohit was injured. BCCI selectors can also consider Jasprit Bumrah for the captain role.

India’s tour of South Africa will begin with a three-match T20I series, the first match will be held on December 10 in Durban. The other three ODIs are scheduled on December 17, 19, and 21 at Johannesburg, Gquberha, and Paarl respectively.
