Why Suryakumar Yadav only watched half of MI's matches during recovery

Indian Premier League 2024: Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav has revealed why he would only watch half of his side’s games on match days as he decided to change his routine around a bit while stepping up his recovery process.

Suryakumar had been out of action since December 2023 with an ankle injury. He would also undergo surgery for a sports hernia and missed the first part of 2024. He would also be out of MI’s first three matches in IPL 2024 as he was at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Suryakumar would get the greenlight and made his return during the MI vs DC clash, where he unfortunately got out for a duck. The MI batter was talking to IPL’s website and said that he would watch half of the matches as he was looking to sleep by 10:30 every day and wake up early to continue his rehabilitation.

“It is always difficult when your team is playing, sitting in the room and watching the game. I can’t say that I didn’t watch the game, I watched half the games, because I was sleeping on time when I was in Bengaluru. 10:30, 10:45. So I used to watch only half the innings and I would watch the whole game the next day.”

“It was difficult, but it gave me a lot of motivation and inspiration looking at them that yes, they’re playing and I have to work hard on my recovery and get there as soon as possible,” said Suryakumar.

Suryakumar Yadav revealed in the video that he had talks with the staff in NCA and his wife and they advised him to comeback from the injury as the best version of himself. The Indian batter decided to sleep on time, to follow a good diet and even cultivated the habit of reading.

“When I spoke to my wife and the staff at NCA, they said it has to be the second version of yourself. You have to be a little different when you return to the field.”

“With that in mind, I started to sleep on time, following a good diet, that was most important. I never read a book in my life, so I started doing that as well. Getting up in the morning, and spending a good amount of time in the rehab centre. Connecting myself, my body and my brain with the rehab.”

“I did well to recover a bit faster because I had two three niggles together. Sports hernia, ankle, then right knee. So I had to take one step at a time, you know small things and here I am,” said Suryakumar.
