Lucknow Super Giants pacer Yash Thakur took First Five-wicket Haul of IPL 2024

Indian Premier League (IPL 2024): Yash Thakur has become the fast bowler to complete a five-wicket haul in the ongoing IPL season as Lucknow Super Giants defeated Gujarat Titans by 33 runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday.

The 25-year-old pacer, who is yet to play international cricket, completed the match with 2 wickets in the 19th over, ending up with figures of 5-30, as LSG beat GT for the very first time in five attempts in IPL.

Yash Thakur bowled 3.5 overs, took 5 wickets and conceded 30 runs against the Gujarat Titans. In 5th over, he took the wicket of the GT captain Shubman Gill. In the 15th over, Yash took a maiden and double wicket of Vijay Shankar and Rashid Khan turning the game on its heels.

Best Bowling Figures for LSG in the IPL 2024

Yash Thakur had to bowl after sensational pacer Mayank Yadav suffered a side strain and left the field after bowling just one over. He came to bowl in the 14th over of GT chase of 164, but he could clock more than 140 kmph only twice in the over before walking off the field.

During the match, former West Indian pacer Ian Bishop underlined the importance of preserving Mayank. “He should be treated and protected well as it is the early stages of his career. His body should get stronger considering he bowls at such a high pace,” he said.

“His franchise and the country’s board should take note of it,” Bishop said in the commentary while giving the example of how Australia preserved Pat Cummins in his early years after the premier pacer suffered a stress injury on his lower back.
