Rahul Dravid Claim on Contract Extension After BCCI Confirmation

Team India head coach Rahul Dravid said on Thursday that he has yet to officially sign any new contract that would allow him to continue as head coach for the men’s cricket team. This twist comes out one day after the BCCI announcement that they are willing to extend the Rahul Dravid and supporting staff tenure.

Finally, Dravid agreed to continue as India’s head coach, but for how long remains the mystery. Dravid along with the BCCI chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar who is available to pick India’s squad for the T20I, ODI and Test series matches against South Africa has informed that he is yet to sign any official document. This statement adds suspense around the duration of the new contract.

“Nothing’s out officially. I haven’t signed anything as yet so once I get the papers, we will discuss it. And maybe then you can…” Dravid said to reporters in Delhi when they asked a few related questions.

Will Rahul Dravid Accept BCCI Proposal To Continue As Indian Team Head Coach?

Dravid had said after the heartbreaking Odi World Cup final defeat that he needed more time to make a decision on his future. VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy, is in charge of the Suryakumar Yadav-led side in the ongoing T20I series between Australia and India which started 4 days after the World Cup final.
On Wednesday, the BCCI officially announced that Rahul Dravid and his supporting staff will continue in their positions and confirmed the contract tenure extension.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announces the extension of contracts for Head Coach Mr. Rahul Dravid and the Support Staff of Team India (Senior Men). The BCCI engaged in productive discussions with Mr Rahul Dravid after the term of his contract ended following the recently concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and unanimously agreed to further the tenure,” the cricket body’s statement read.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the Indian Cricket Board will continue to offer its full support to the head coach. He applauded Rahul by saying that senior men’s tea’s success is a reflection of his vision, guidance and roadmap he has put after taking the job in 2021.
