IPL 2024: CSK Senior Bowler Deepak Chahar About Team Meetings

The IPL 2024 auction is just around the corner and CSK showed faith in Deepak Chahar, retaining him for the next season. Chennai Super Kings who was bought for Rs 14 crore in the IPL 2022 auction, has had a fair share of injury concerns but the team has backed the Rajasthan pacer, time and again.

Senior bowler Deepak Chahar has been a significant part of Chennai Super Kings ever since he joined the franchise in 2018. After missing the complete IPL 2022 season due to an injury that also hampered his T20 World Cup chance last year, Chahr managed injury problems in the IPL 2023 season and played 10 games in their winning campaign.

In an interview with Jio Cinema, Chahr spoke about his role on the side and how he has taken the responsibility of leading the bowling groups, especially in team meetings.

“In bowlers’ meetings, I am the one doing the talking as no one wants to speak. Even the coaches asked me to speak up. Pathirana speaks very little. Tushar Deshpande too speaks very little. Earlier we had Shardul, and we did not need anyone else to speak. He would manage everything. But now, I have to speak in meetings,” said Chahar.

In the 2023 IPL, Chahar picked up 13 wickets across 10 games and provided crucial breakthroughs with the new ball. His contributions have been consistent throughout his tenure with CSK. He played an important role in CSK’s title-winning campaign in the 2021 edition of the IPL, where he claimed 14 wickets in 14 matches.

Throughout his IPL career with CSK, Chahar has played 73 matches and taken 72 wickets, with an average of 28.04 and an economy rate of nearly 7.93 runs per over. His best individual bowling figures stand at 4/13.
